Director of Tennis – Gerald Yung

Gerald was a National doubles Camp in 1981.  He attended the University of California, Berkeley where he played collegiate tennis and his team was consistently ranked top 15 in the US.  During his college career he has recorded singles and doubles victories over universities such as Stanford, USC, UCLA and Pepperdine.

He has taught all levels for over 20 years in Colorado, Hong Kong and California.  In the recent years his students have won 4 provincial championships, and represented BC at multiple National Championships.  He has also taught many seniors who have represented Canada on the Senior National Team at the world championships.

Gerald founded the North Island Tennis Academy (NITA) because of his love for the sport and his interests in growing tennis in the region. He believes the best way to achieve this is to focus on the kids. He is very excited about the Canadian progressive tennis system which has generated new found interest in the sport globally by allowing kids to begin tennis at a younger age.

Shawn Lusignan

Shawn has been a Club Pro at Westwood since 2017. Shawn is Head Coach of our North Island Tennis Academy (NITA). He brings his experience as a competitive player to his coaching and specializes in junior development.

Ethan Kern

Ethan is a tennis coach from Toronto, Ontario; who has over 10 years of experience coaching tennis to adults and juniors of all skill levels. He has completed his Club Professional 1 coaching certification and is a member of the Tennis Professionals Association. As a junior, Ethan reached the rank of number 2 in Ontario had the privilege of representing Ontario and Canada at national and international events. Ethan has coached at a number of tennis clubs across Ontario, including the Badminton and Racquet Club of Toronto and Timberlane Athletic Club. He has also worked with high performance juniors at Toronto Tennis Academy, and acted as a coach and hitting partner for some of the top juniors in Ontario.

Whitman Tomusiak

Whitman comes from a highly competitive sports background being a former professional athlete in the CFL.  This gives him extensive knowledge of the highest level of physical training in areas such as agility, speed and strength.  His passion and love for tennis has allowed him to transfer this knowledge to tennis which is reflected in his enthusiasm for teaching.  He is also an active tournament player.

He works with our junior programs both at the Introductory level with Parks and Rec as well as in our tennis Academy programs.  He is available for private lessons with adults and juniors of all levels and hitting sessions (hitting sessions are for members only).
